Join us in the beautiful desert near the Joshua Tree National Park for a day of  artistic creations. Learners will cycle through two workshops; wire art and pottery. In between workshops, we will have a picnic lunch at the nearby historical 29 Palms Inn, surrounded by an oasis with fish and turtles, and a vegetable garden.

Wire Art Workshop: Students will learn the art of persuading wire to create a scorpion or a snake ring, depending on age. Copper Scorpion – the pokey Knight of the Desert. You will learn to wrap it, shape it, and twist it into all it’s insect glory. Each student will walk away with a completed copper scorpion. OR  Copper snake ring – in this class, we will learn to measure your finger, shape your wire then weave it together. At the end of the day, everyone will have their very own snake ring to wear home.

Pottery Workshop:  join your mud loving instructor, Gretchen Grunt, to learn how to throw an ice cream bowl on the pottery wheel; plus hand build a pinch pot clay creature. Learn how to make coils, slabs and decorative surfaces, and how to paint glaze on. Finally, your completed clay forms will dry and be fired to 2,000 degrees, and returned back to you within two weeks to enjoy eating your ice cream with your clay creature by your side.
