Middle School Writing Lab @ the Acton Library: Constructing an Argument

During the final Writing Lab, learners will meet over pizza to settle the great debate: does pineapple go on pizza? They will have the opportunity to compare and contrast pizza (including pineapple pizza) in order to accurately convey their thoughts into concrete arguments. After testing out pineapple pizza, learners will be asked to write a clear argument either for or against pineapple on pizza. Learners will use their previous experience with pizza writing (or any writing if they are new this month) in order to convincingly support their claim. Learners will be asked to work on their arguments either individually or in small groups and present their formal claims to the group. Lastly, learners will be asked to take their claims home and make a formal presentation on their argument that can be provided to their EF at their next LP meeting.
Learners will be provided with pizza, writing materials, and reference materials.
