Point Vicente Interpretive Center Tour and Hike

A docent-led tour at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center offers a fascinating 1 ½ hour exploration of the history, natural wonders, and cultural heritage of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and its surrounding waters. During the tour, you’ll learn about the area‘s rich history, including the cultures of the Tongva Native Americans, early ranchers, whalers, farmers, and the visionaries and developers who shaped the Peninsula. The museum and gift shop are open from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Key highlights of the tour include:
- An interior sea cave that replicates the mysterious and awe-inspiring coastal formations.
- A model of a life-size gray whale calf, giving visitors a close-up view of these magnificent creatures.
- A tide pool exhibit where you can learn about the unique ecosystems along the Peninsula’s shores.
- A kelp forest exhibit, showcasing the vital underwater habitat that supports marine life in the area.
- An interactive gray whale exhibit where you can learn more about the species that migrate along the coast.
- Historical exhibits focused on the Tongva Native Americans and the early settlers who influenced the region’s development.
During this time of year, there’s also the opportunity to witness the incredible Pacific gray whale migration, as these majestic creatures pass along the coast. It’s a memorable experience that combines education, nature, and history in one compelling tour.
