About Bethany

After a childhood in remote corners of the midwest, Bethany has lived in central Los Angeles for over 15 years now. She loves both city and country life and now gets her nature fix by camping and by visiting her brother’s farm every summer.
Bethany was homeschooled in her childhood from grades K-12 (using nearly every curriculum available back in the day) and also helped teach her younger siblings, many with special needs, and now homeschools her own kids.
Bethany’s ten-year classroom teaching journey began in kindergarten and first-grade classrooms before moving up to middle school special education classes in math, history, and science and then on to high school college and career counseling and academic intervention. She has five siblings with special needs and has a special place in her heart for neurodiverse learners, and loves the way homeschooling allows us to teach every child the way they learn best. She now brings her years in special education and her 5 years as a general education EF together to the table as coordinator of the Student Success Team.

Bethany’s favorite quote on education is, “Education is not the filling of a bucket but the lighting of a fire,” and she is excited about all the ways homeschooling parents can light fires of curiosity, passion, and talent within their children.
