Born in Brazil, Gabriela moved to southern California with her family at the age of three. A native Portuguese speaker, she enjoyed learning English and Spanish in school. These early language skills helped her with her language studies in college. After receiving an associate’s degree at Orange Coast College, she managed the career library in the counseling department. Working on a college campus was very exciting! Gabriela enjoyed learning about art and history and received a bachelor’s degree in art history at CSULB. She also had the opportunity to live and study abroad in Europe and the Middle East for one year.
Having a passion for the field of education, Gabriela received a teaching credential from CSULB and taught high school biology, physical science and child development for ten years with the Garden Grove Unified School District. Gabriela is grateful for the opportunity to homeschool her son and is working to give him the gift of language learning that she was given. She has taught science classes in the homeschooling community and Lego engineering in an after school program for Shared Science in Long Beach. Gabriela has also worked with high school learners in a hybrid program. Inspired by the learning she sees unfolding, she is enthusiastic about supporting the learners she serves.
Gabriela enjoys art, literature, traveling with family and nature trails. She is very excited to be a part of the iLEAD Exploration community.
