About Lori

Lori is so excited to work with homeschool families at iLEAD. She has a large network of friends in the homeschooling community and understands that there are endless opportunities and choices for families. Lori believes that every child can love learning when the best approach is found that is tailored to his or her needs. She loves to educate people about the world of homeschooling and why it was the best choice for her family. There has never been a better time to homeschool!

Lori graduated with a degree in English literature from Vanguard University. She received her single-subject teaching credential from Vanguard as well. Lori taught language arts for 10 years in a public school, grades 7-12. She also taught the AVID elective, coached the drill team, and advised the yearbook class. After leaving the teaching profession, Lori mentored private school teachers getting their clear credential. She worked with teachers in a variety of schools including Montessori and International Baccalaureate that exposed her to new philosophies and ways of educating. It was a wonderful experience that has helped her mentor many teachers.
Lori is married with three children – Joshua, Malia, and Micah. She has been homeschooling for over five years. When she is not at home, Lori is usually at the ice rink. Her son plays hockey and her daughter is a figure skater. The Velarde family loves to travel. They love to go to Palm Desert, Hawaii and Mammoth.
