About Susan

After earning her undergraduate degree from UC Santa Barbara, Susan spent three enriching years in Japan teaching English as a second language. Upon returning to California, she obtained her teaching credential from National University and went on to teach mathematics to students in grades 6 through 10.

For the past 15 years, Susan has dedicated her career to independent study charter schools, including 11 years with iLEAD Exploration. She deeply values the flexibility and personalized learning environment that independent study offers, empowering students to take ownership of their education, explore their passions, and develop critical skills for lifelong success. Susan is passionate about helping families unlock the wide range of innovative resources and tailored support available to independent learners today.

In her role as National Honor Society Supervisor, Susan finds great joy in mentoring and guiding high-achieving students. She believes NHS plays a vital role in fostering leadership, character, scholarship, and community service—qualities that prepare students to become responsible, compassionate leaders in their communities and beyond. Susan loves celebrating the achievements of NHS members and watching them grow into confident, motivated individuals who make a positive impact on the world around them.
