Lincoln, the Movie

We are so excited to share a very special opportunity with our Exploration families! Gabriela Stiles, one of our Exploration educational facilitators, has organized a wonderful event for our older learners!

If there are 40 participants, she is offering to rent out the beautiful Art Theater for our learners to enjoy a showing of the movie “Lincoln” followed by a Q & A session! This is a wonderful opportunity for our tween and teen learners to enjoy a bit of history in the comfort of a movie theater! We hope to see you there!

LONG BEACH
Date: February 21, 2017
Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Art Theater, 2025 EAST 4TH STREET, LONG BEACH, CA 90814 562.438.5435

The History and Culture through Cinema project proudly presents the critically acclaimed 2012 film “Lincoln” (PG 13) at the beautiful and historic Art Theater in Long Beach. The film focuses on Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and his attempt to get the 13th amendment passed as the Civil War comes to a close. Winner of two Oscars, including one for Daniel Day-Lewis’s compelling portrayal of Abraham Lincoln, it was directed by Steven Spielberg with music composed by John Williams (Star Wars).

An optional worksheet will be emailed to participants to encourage interested learners to explore the events related to those depicted in the film. The event will include a short introduction to put the movie into further historical context and will be followed by a brief question and answer session.

This showing is intended for Tweens and Teens, ages 13+. Though not a movie focused on violence or language, both are present at times, as well as era-accurate racial epithets. Some of the scenes may be either too intense or dialogue heavy for younger children.
