Read Across America Week

Read Across America Day

Read Across America is a nationwide initiative that encourages learners to read. It began as a one-day event but has grown into a year-round effort to promote literacy and diverse reading experiences. The celebration highlights the power of books to build imagination, empathy, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.

At home, learners can:

  • Read for an hour, rotating who reads the next paragraph or page.
  • Set aside a special family reading time.
  • Visit a local library.
  • Create a family challenge or book bingo board.
  • Create a paired craft. After reading a story, make a simple craft inspired by the story or characters.

Read Across America reminds us that reading is a lifelong habit that opens doors and we can celebrate by making reading joyful, accessible, and part of our daily rhythm at home.
