The Curriculum Library Presents: Learner Authors

We have had several learners take writing courses this year that helped them write and publish their own novels! Less than 1 percent of the entire population has written and published a book, so we are proud of these learners working hard and publishing their stories.

Eighth grader Gordon Schmidt is a passionate artist and musician. While this is his first full-length novel, he has been writing short stories since his preschool years.
They Went in Together tells the harrowing tale of four friends who find themselves lost in a devilish labyrinth. Together they must defeat the creatures trying to destroy the world and make it back home. But will they come out of it together?

Ian Thomas is a 12-year-old creative and visionary writer with a passion for sci-fi adventure and imaginative world-building. His debut novel, The World Between Shadows, blends high-energy action with emotional depth and big-picture imagination.
The World Between Shadows follows Damian Axel, a 14-year-old chosen by an ancient council and transported to a world caught between light and darkness. As the Shadow Lord threatens existence itself, Damian must unlock his hidden power and become the hero the universe needs.

Sebastian Yang, a 5th grader, lives in Malibu, California. He enjoys playing the drums, writing, and ketchup.
Henry is an average boy… Or so his peers think. Until a plan that threatens everyone’s way of life is uncovered, and Henry must prove his parents’ innocence. Check out It Wasn’t Me.

Tesla is a 12-year-old learner who loves to read and write. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, going to amusement parks, building with Legos, and performing in musicals.
Her first novel is called Battle of the Crescent Islands: The Prophecy. Two 12-year- olds, Lily and Oliver, face a series of challenges and obstacles, but when they uncover a secret, they realize that danger threatens not only them but an entire country.

Some learners will be at the OC Curriculum Library on June 3 to celebrate the launch of their novels and answer questions about their writing process. A few copies of these learners’ books will be available at the Curriculum Libraries. (Also available on Amazon.) We hope to see you there!
