Four Year College Admissions
Four year admissions takes a bit of planning. There are over 2,500 four year colleges in the United States as well as universities abroad. The California state systems includes nine University of California campuses and the California State University offers twenty three locations. Each institution has its own deadlines and academic requirements which start as early as October 15 and continue throughout the year. Please arrange an appointment with the high school counselor or college advisor as early as possible to plan your path.
Applications
- The Common Application is the application for over 900 private and public colleges. The application opens on August 1 and each college has its own essays, deadlines and requirements.
- The University of California Application opens on August 1 and must be submitted between November 1 and November 30.
- The California State University Application must be submitted between November 1 and November 30.
- The Common Black Application includes 62 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and a single payment of $20 allows learners to apply to all institutions.
- The Coalition Application is available through your Scoir account and provides substantial support to lower-income, under-resourced and/or first-generation learners, offer responsible financial aid packages, and demonstrate a commitment to graduation completion.
- Some states require their own applications. Check each college for application requirements.
Transferring
The associate degree for transfer helps learners prepare for a guaranteed major at the California State University. By following a specific course of study, a learner can transfer into a matching major at one of the CSU campuses. While this program does not guarantee a specific campus, it does guarantee that the learner will be admitted to their desired major.
Gap Year
An intentional year following high school to explore service opportunities, travel, or personal passions before starting college. The Gap Year Association focuses on programs, research, and resources to help learners investigate options. Learners taking a gap year should NOT take college courses since this will impact future admission status.
