Testing

PSAT

All 10th and 11th graders are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam which is offered in early October. The PSAT tests knowledge in reading, writing, language, and math and is a practice test for the SAT which is typically taken during the spring of junior year. The PSAT is the qualifying exam for both the National Merit and the National Recognition Scholarships. Learners can only qualify for national merit in 11th grade but can qualify for national recognition in 10th or 11th grade. Learn more about National Merit and National Recognition. Learners may register to take the PSAT/NMSQT during the fall at iLEAD’s OC Learning Studio in Costa Mesa or at a local school that permits them to test on their testing day using our school code 054846. Visit College Board PSAT for specific testing questions and free practice exams.

SAT vs ACT

Learners who are college-bound may opt to take the SAT or ACT for college admissions. These exams are offered at national test centers seven times per year. Colleges consider each exam equally. Learners should consider the policies of each college as they make their testing plans. Colleges have three general policies:

The University of California and the California State University systems are test free. Test scores are not considered nor permitted in the admission process. All other colleges in California are test free or test optional. If learners are looking outside of California, they should check the college website or FairTest for current test policies.

AP Testing

Learners interested in earning college credit while in high school can take advanced placement exams. AP exams are typically given after a learner completes an AP course. There are 38 different AP courses with exams in all core subjects as well art, music, and computer science. AP exams are given in early May and are offered at the OC learning studio in Costa Mesa and in Acton? Learners register and pay for the exam in October.
