Later, he won the bronze medal at the 2016 Presidential Cup, his first international black belt event. He trained hard with Olympic aspirations and began to excel, winning several state titles in California, Nevada, and Arizona.He started to gain ground internationally winning a silver medal at the 2019 Canada Open as well as the 2019 Presidents Cup. His most prized accomplishment was winning Gold at the 2020 US Open.
He was also recognized as a 2019 All American Athlete by USA TaeKwonDo in Colorado Springs.
In October 2020, Michael was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma, an aggressive malignant brain tumor. While this diagnosis broke him physically and emotionally, it didn’t break his fighting spirit. Soon after his first surgery, Michael was baptized.
