MAP Overview

What is the MAP Growth test?

Unlike paper and pencil tests, where all learners are asked the same questions and spend a fixed amount of time taking the test, MAP Growth is a computer adaptive test. That means every learner gets a unique set of test questions based on responses to previous questions. As the learner answers correctly, questions get harder. If the learner answers incorrectly, the questions get easier. By the end of the test, most learners will have answered about half the questions correctly, as is common on adaptive tests. The purpose of MAP Growth is to determine what the learner knows and is ready to learn next.

The MAP Growth test can range from 40-53 questions and generally takes about an hour to complete. Once completed, this test provides a very detailed report about the learner’s academic strengths and needs and is recommended for all learners.

Why are learners required to participate in MAP testing?

Public schools are required to provide both summative end-of-year data (CAASPP testing) and interim/benchmark data (MAP testing). MAP testing shows growth from fall to spring, as well as from year to year.

Who takes the MAP test?

All learners (TK-12) in Exploration are required to take both the Reading and Math Growth Tests to track learner growth. Other optional tests (Language, Science, etc.) are available to track growth as well. Contact your EF for more information on these tests.

When does testing take place?

We offer MAP testing three times a year: Fall, Winter and Spring. Fall and Spring testing is required for all learners and Winter is highly recommended and encouraged.

Where do learners take the MAP test?

Learners are able to take the MAP test wherever they are comfortable! The MAP test is administered remotely by your EF to accommodate the best testing conditions for your learner.

Why are learners required to participate in MAP testing?

Public schools are required to provide both summative data (CAASPP testing) and interim/benchmark data (MAP testing) each school year. The MAP test is a tool that iLEAD implements to collect this interim/benchmark data to track learner growth throughout the year. MAP testing allows us to track growth from Fall to Spring, as well as from year to year while providing pertinent information and data on how to best customize instruction for your learner.

Can my learner complete a practice test?

Yes! View this resource to examine and explore the test.
