Research Project: Queen Elizabeth:

iLEAD Exploration learner Eiden Ygei QueenSixth grade iLEAD Exploration learner Eiden Ygei couldn’t have known how timely this project would be when he started it. He didn’t know that Queen Elizabeth would die in late 2022 while he was still in the midst of working on it or that her son, then–Prince Charles would be crowned king in early May of this year. Eiden was just interested in learning about the longest-reigning British monarch.

Eiden researched Queen Elizabeth II using books and the internet to learn about her life and the history of her reign. He found a treasure trove of interesting information about the monarchy and Elizabeth’s role as the queen. Eiden was especially struck by the queen’s influence on her country and how important her many years of service were to both her people and the world. He accessed all the many print and video retrospectives shared in the wake of her death.

One of the biggest challenges Eiden faced was deciding what was important to share and what could be left out. Nevertheless, Eiden advises anyone attempting a similar project to gather as much information as possible so you have plenty to sift through as you work on your project.

To close, a bit of advice for anyone researching on the internet: First, read lots and lots of reputable sources. Then, set the sources out of sight and simply jot down notes about what you remember from what you read — in your own words, of course. Only go back to confirm important details.
