We are so proud of our iLEAD learners and are excited for their futures! Making decisions about post-high school plans for further education and/or career pursuits can be challenging. We wanted to highlight some organizations and websites that are available to help you and your student make more informed decisions.
The Exploring programs are a great way to learn more about a particular career. Their website explains, “Exploring is a unique career exploration program for young men and women ages 10 – 20. The program provides students with an opportunity to learn about a wide variety of career fields and network with professionals already working in those fields. You get hands-on experience to determine whether or not a particular career field is right for you. You develop valuable networking contacts with professionals working in your selected career fields, and you get to know other youth with your same interests and aspirations. Exploring is the first step in identifying career possibilities while having fun in an exciting and informal environment.” You can find out more about the programs offered here.
There are also summer programs in which students can participate. This website provides opportunities for career exploration and leadership programs during the summer.
If you don’t have the time to become a part of a regular program, consider job shadowing or volunteering for a day or two. Here is a helpful article with more information about how to effectively job shadow. Volunteering is a great opportunity to learn about a future career field as well as a great way to improve your college applications and/or resume.
The Exploration high school team is here to support you! Depending on the amount of time and work you devote to exploring possible careers or obtaining work experience and skills, you may be able to earn high school credits. Please speak with your educational facilitator to find the best plan for your learner.
