Book Club for Grades 3-5: Front Desk by Kelly Yang

Front Desk, written by Kelly Yang, is a novel about a ten-year old girl named Mia and her determination to help her family in the 1990s in Anaheim, California. Coming from China, in pursuit of the American dream, her family deals with many challenges, but finds friends and a new community along the way. Learners will be reading sections on their own and coming together to discuss them. Participants will also use Mia’s letters as inspiration to make their own letters for change.
