Book Club for Grades 3-5: The Birchbark House

Third through fifth grade learner are invited to join this book club event and read The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich. Louise Erdich is a member of the Turtle Mountain band of the Chippewa or Ojibwa tribe, and uses her own Ojibwa family history to share the beauty and complexity of her heritage. Learners will get to experience both the joys and the hardships of this tribe during the 1840s. Through the life of a young Ojibwa girl, Omakayas, learners will get to explore the ideas of family, community and resilience.
