Book Club for Grades 6th-8th: Amal Unbound

Over the course of three Zoom meetings, book clubbers will read Amal Unbound, the fictional story of young Amal, who navigates indentured servitude in modern day Pakistan. Learners will engage in facilitated discussions geared toward plot and dialogue, the geographical and social placement of Pakistan, and the concept of indentured servitude and its prevalence in the modern world. 

The culminating event is a movie showing of the 2013 documentary Girl Rising that demonstrates the powerful impact that education has on girls around the world.
