About Kristi

Kristi’s teaching career began the day her parents brought her baby sister home from the hospital. She immediately wanted to share her favorite books with her and was disappointed when she was uninterested. After studying elementary education at Auburn University, Kristi taught first and second grade for eight years at a public school in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a private school in Miami, Florida. Six days after the school year ended in 2007, Kristi’s first son was born and her new career as a stay-at-home mom began.

Kristi and her husband Dave accidentally became independent studyers when their oldest son was in kindergarten. The family went on tour with Dave, a stand up comedian, and traveled all over the United States and Canada in a travel trailer for 18 months. When the family landed in Los Angeles, they enjoyed the flexibility of independent studying and of course the time spent together. Eight years later, Kristi is still independent studying, and it is her favorite job ever!

As a independent study mom, Kristi already shares advice and supports other independent study moms in her community. It was a natural progression for her to start a career as an educational facilitator three years ago. Kristi loves curriculum and connecting with families! She is an advocate for parent choice in education and is passionate about helping students reach their full potential as learners. She is thrilled to be joining the iLEAD family!
