Enrichment Opportunities at the Acton Library

paint nebula

Learners visiting the Acton Library on March 27th will learn about Williamina Fleming, an astronomer who is credited for discovering the Horsehead Nebula. Much of her other work was capturing the light of a star through a prism, creating a rainbow spectrum. In this project, learners will create the ROYGBIV rainbow, then cut out thin strips. Next, learners will paint a nebula using different painting techniques, including dry brush, paper towel, cotton ball, and splatter with a toothbrush. Stars are added, and lastly the light of the spectrums are glued on, creating rainbow lines across the sky.
