Leadership Profile: Heidi Hernandez

Leadership Profile Lisa Salazar

Heidi HernandeziLEAD Exploration continues to grow and expand in all ways – including new leaders. One of those new leaders is Regional Lead Heidi Hernandez. She recently agreed to share some personal and professional information in order for the iLEAD Exploration community to get to know her better. Here is a summary:

What are your hobbies, interests and passions?

My hobbies include fitness and chocolate (sometimes together!).  I love taking care of my children, hubby, dogs, chickens and turkey. My passion is helping people.

What is your educational background?

I have my bachelor’s degree and multiple subject teaching credential with an authorization in mathematics.  I also earned a master’s degree in Educational Administration.  I am (slowly) working on the CPACE for my admin credential.

What is your professional background?

I taught 6th grade for 5 years and middle school algebra for 4 years before entering into the homeschooling realm of non-classroom-based charter schools where I have been for the last 9 years.

What are the roles and responsibilities of this new role?

I place learners and help withdraw them.  I support the onboarding and off-boarding of educational facilitators.  I am a listening ear, a problem solver and a happiness maker of leads and Educational Facilitators…or at least I strive to be!

Why iLEAD Schools? Why did you take on this new role?

I actually began my charter school journey back in 2014 with iLEAD. I missed it so much that I came back!  I love our philosophy of learning.  My own kiddos are attending iLEAD Agua Dulce campus this year with the amazing Lisa Latimer. I wanted to be part of their learning journey, so iLEAD was calling me home!

How have you been welcomed or received thus far?

The leadership team, leads and EFs of Exploration immediately treated me like family.  They have been overwhelmingly kind and generous, patient and lovely.  Literally, every one of them has been nothing short of amazing.

Any other thoughts or comments?

I recently joined the Equity Task Force, and I am so excited to be on such a progressive team. I hope to bring great resources and tools to Exploration. Here’s to the future!!
