Acton Curriculum Story Time

books library

The Acton Curriculum Library is celebrating Native American Heritage Month the whole month of November. Join the library staff for story time and art.

November 15: 1:00-3:00 PM

On November 15 from 1:00-3:00 PM, grades 5-8 are invited to the Acton Library to hear a reading of How the Stars Fell into the Sky: A Navajo Legend. This story features a Navajo first woman and her use of stars to guide her people, which is disrupted by a trickster coyote.

Learners will use the art of Indigenous Diné artist Daniel Josely as inspiration in their own works of art to create a mixed-media collage masterpiece. In addition, we will learn to tell our own stories through art with an emphasis on ancient sky art and a beautiful desert backdrop. Be sure to wear your best painting clothes, as we will be getting messy!

November 29: 1:00-3:00 PM

On November 29 at 1:00-3:00 PM, learners in grades 1-4 are invited to the Acton Library to read How the Stars Fell into the Sky: A Navajo Legend. Along with story time, learners will be exposed to a lesson on the Ute Petroglyphs at Delicate Arch in eastern Utah and use this art as inspiration for their own sculptures. We will explore working with clay, painting, and Sgraffito (a technique of carving in wet clay).

Please visit the hub to register for either of these events and to see a list of upcoming events.
