Take Your Homeschool Outside
Spring is here! Use the activities below to learn and explore outside.
- Make the Most of Rainy Days – Explore the mud and puddles using your five senses after a rainy day.
- Play Nature Hide and Seek – You can go on a photo scavenger hunt in your backyard, town, or city, and learn about what you are finding. Find different types of rocks, plants and more.
- Mark the Changes of the Seasons – Identify seasonal milestones that are going up, like the summer solstice, and mark them on your calendar. Observe what happens on these days and discuss it as a family.
- Keep a Cloud Journal – Learn all about the different types of clouds then go outside and sketch what you see in the clouds.
- Stock up on Maps and Field Guides – Being able to identify trees, wildflowers, animal tracks and birds makes outside time more interesting. Learn about topographical maps and mark areas that you have explored.
- Put up a bird feeder – Learn all about the types of birds in your area.
- Start a rock collection – Investigate the rock cycle and discover the different types of rocks.
- Make family hiking a part of your routine – Go on a hike daily, weekly, or on a monthly basis.
- Explore a new place – Research a new trail or park and visit it as a family.
- Be Nature Detectives – Have the kids grab their investigator notebooks and look for mysterious objects. When they spot something they can’t identify, get out the magnifying glasses, and jot down details to solve the case.
