Learner University: Shrinking our Footprints (Grades 5-6)

During this Learner University opportunity, 5th-6th grade learners will work together to explore climate change and how our carbon footprints are contributing to the current climate crisis. Throughout this project, learner will ask
questions, collect data, and research ways we can reduce our carbon footprints. Learners will write a letter to you, explaining how you, as a family, can reduce your carbon footprint. Through this project, learners will explore a number of concepts and skills, including key math concepts of multiplying fractions, volume, and using data charts to better understand and explain their thinking; research skills; reading and writing for instructional purposes; and collaborating with teams to solve a problem.
