High School Learner Spotlight: Lorenzo D.
How long have you been attending iLEAD?
This is my fourth year attending iLEAD!
What are your interests outside of school?
I love listening to K-pop, I love editing videos, I find drawing so much fun, and I also love being involved within my church.
How did you build your YouTube channel, and what do you share with your subscribers?
My channel grew basically out of nowhere. I’ve had YouTube for as long as I can remember and have always played video games, but when I got my first PC, I started making videos. It began with playing Roblox. I posted uncut montages and gameplay footage, and then the wave began when I posted a video with my family. From 1,000 subscribers, I reached 10,000 in just a week! Now, two years later, I have over 300,000 subscribers, and I get to share my life and family for all to see. It’s such a fun project that reaches people all over the globe.
How has YouTube become a passion project for you?
With the main focus of my channel rooted in sharing moments with my family through video games, I have realized there is such a call to broken children and families. I posted a TikTok with over 2 million views with my family playing Roblox, but the top comments all spoke about how distant they were from their parents and siblings, how some, unfortunately, lost a parent, how some do not have that loving, caring relationship with their family. That was the turning point that made me realize how impactful and important this channel was to so many people; I’m very grateful and blessed to have the supportive family and platform that allows me to do this.
How has iLEAD allowed you to grow in your interests?
iLEAD has given me the flexibility to excel both in school and on my YouTube channel. iLEAD has also offered me so many resources and opportunities that have helped me reach out to other people, speak at panels, interact with clubs of my interests, and take classes that have strengthened my passion.
What do you hope to pursue in the future?
I see myself in a position where I get to pursue YouTube full-time; no matter the amount of money, subscribers, views, or likes, if I can make at least one person happy through our content, that is already enough to make me happy. I want to be a part of ministry and aid the youth. There’s so much that I know is possible with how things are at the moment.
