Learner Spotlight: Henry Walter
Henry is an inspirational learner who proves each day that anything is possible. Living with special needs can make the simplest tasks quite difficult, but Henry doesn’t let that get in the way of his goals. independent studying has allowed him the opportunity to move at his own pace and explore topics and ideas that he is developmentally ready for. Henry is an active kindergartner who is interested in dragons, dinosaurs, volcanoes, and ninjas. Most of his time is spent practicing Jiu-Jitsu, skateboarding, practicing parkour, listening to music, and drawing. Being free of a traditional school schedule allows Henry freedom to enjoy his favorite activities with his family at any time. Henry’s family does a lot of camping, hiking, and tide-pooling together!
Recently, Henry competed in the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation) World Competition in Long Beach, where he took home a gold medal in the Special Needs category! He has been practicing Jiu-Jitsu for about two years under his amazing coach, Kristen, at Unlimited Possibilities Martial Arts. Henry also participated in the Vans Gives Back Autism day, where he spent the day skateboarding with the pros, conquering fears, and building confidence.
