The RACE Strategy
During our ELD sessions, we are incorporating strategies to help our learners be successful across all content areas. Recently, we introduced the RACE strategy to help with both reading comprehension and writing skills. RACE is an acronym that helps guide learners through the process of answering constructed questions in reading. The RACE acronym stands for
R – Restate the question
A – Answer the question completely
C – Cite evidence from the text
E – Explain the text evidence
By using this strategy, learners will be able to answer questions across multiple subject areas with well constructed answers. Here is a free RACE resource from Teachers Pay Teachers with more explanations and examples to use at home. Here is a video to watch for another explanation.
